Within the first few minutes a probing run into the box by the homeside's Mellanby took him past centre-back Smith but his low cross was not finished off by forward Conlon.
Harriers began to find their feet and Davis caused a bit of panic by winning a good interception on the edge of the box only for Darlington to clear their line.
