IN reply to G Cowley's letter mentioning poet Edward Young (1683-1765) regarding atheism, may I suggest he reads more up-to-date definitions, such as Glossary of Religions in Everyman's Factfinder.

Here is their definition: Atheism is an intellectual refutation of the existence of God. Having come to this conclusion, I'm sure an atheist won't change his views overnight, having arrived at their belief through the use of their own intellect, as opposed to believing in what has never been proved.
