ELTON Moncrieff believes the 'French revolution' at Gloucester is one of the best things to happen . . . for Worcester Rugby Club that is.

The scrum-half, who made the short journey from Kingsholm to Sixways this summer along with fellow Gloucester old boys John Brain, Peter Finch, Chris Yates and Kingsley Jones, is convinced the new additions will definitely boost Worcester's promotion chances this season.

Kiwi Moncrieff, will be best remembered at Gloucester for his match-winning drop goal which saw the Cherry and Whites edge past Llanelli into the semi-finals of the Heineken Cup last season. His freak strike, which deflected off a Llanelli player and over the bar, was one of the highlights of his two-year stay at Kingsholm.

However, despite his undoubted pedigree which has seen him star for Queensland and Canterbury, he was told he had no future by Gloucester boss Philippe Saint-Andre and had to find a new club.

And for the 29-year-old, Gloucester's loss is definitely Worcester's gain.

"It was completely out of my hands, there is a big shake-up going on there and I obviously wasn't part of his plans," he said.

"My contract ended with Gloucester and I am just delighted to be at Worcester because it is a very ambitious and positive environment to be in. What we want obviously is to get into the Premiership and stay there. Everyone talks about that but it's important to take it a step at a time otherwise you can lose sight of the challenge in front of you.

"John Brain is a very straight-up guy. He will talk to you face to face and tell the truth. He is very focussed on preparation and being professional which we all need to be if we are to be successful this season. He is a very good coach and the ideal person for the job."
