A BRIDEGROOM was set to be limping down the aisle today after he was involved in a five-car accident near Worcester.

John Clarke was one of three motorists taken to the city's Ronkswood Hospital after the accident at Little Witley yesterday. None of them was thought to have life-threatening injuries.

Mr Clarke broke a toe in the crash on the A443. His white Vauxhall Omega, which he planned to use after the service, was left unable to be driven.

Now the 31-year-old, who lives in Exeter with his fiance Naomi Foster but comes from Little Witley, will have to limp down the aisle in a slipper for his wedding at Witley Court, due to take place at 2pm.

"I can't get my shoe on so it looks like I'm going to have to wear a slipper during the service," he said.

"And I'll have to use a walking stick. I thought my car being off the road was going to cause a problem but managed to get replacement vehicles."

Three firecrews from Worcester's Green Watch and ambulance crews were scrambled to the scene after the accident at 5.15pm.

Police closed one side of the Worcester to Tenbury route as emergency vehicles attended the scene, which was on a bend.

A spokesman for West Mercia police appealed to anyone with information on the incident to contact Kidderminster police on 01562 820888.
