CYCLING: Six Evesham Wheelers members competed in the final event of the nine race Welsh CA 'Magic Dragon' series, which was a 30 mile time trial held on a circuit between Abergavenny and Raglan.
In very windy but dry conditions, Brian Newton won the veteran's standard award with a time of 1hour 11minutes 39seconds, supported by Ken Haines in 1.17.43, Rudi Litghert 1.19.32, Tom Brazier 1.18.26 and Arja Scarsbrook 1.23.25. Mark Brazier was unfortunate to suffer a mechanical problem and retired. The Evesham Wheelers acquitted themselves well in the series overall to finish seventh best team from the 25 clubs that participated.
This Sunday the club is staging their annual Three Counties Randonnee. This popular event attracts cyclists nationally and covers a 200km route through Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire. The event starts at Hampton Ferry at 8am.
