DOES David Andrews really believe that joining the euro will make a difference to the price we pay for petrol, cars, CDs - or anything else for that matter?

He sounds terribly nave. We are, in fact, one of the highest taxed countries in Europe and joining the euro will not make a scrap of difference to that.

If Mr Andrews is serious in what he states, then I suggest he gets an undertaking from his MP or Tony Blair, to that effect. Then even I might vote New Labour next time.

The changeover is going to cost billions and is in fact costing us millions now. Chancellor Brown is selling off our gold reserves to help prop up the euro.

Prices will escalate as businesses have to pass on the increased taxes to pay for this.

In the 1970s, when we changed to decimalisation, Prime Minister Harold Wilson appeared on television and told us there would be rounding up and rounding down. As I recall, there was no rounding down.

I say keep the pound and spend this money on the Health Service and make sure pensioners, who fought for this country, have a decent standard of living instead of supporting fat cats in Brussels in millionaire status.
