In 1751 the Journal carried the following two advertisements. The first read:
"To be Let - A very commodious house situate in Powick's Lane in the City of Worcester, late in the possession of Mr Moore and having two good parlours, several good lodging rooms, a large kitchen and brewhouse and cellar."
And the second: "Clocks and watches made and mended by Richard Monkland at New Street near the Corn Market, likewise sun-dials."
This week half-a-century ago, the Journal stated that the annual City of Worcester Show at Pitchcroft (a once popular feature of the local calendar) had been almost a wash-out. "It was only saved from financial disaster by a sudden improvement in the weather in the early afternoon. The final attendance was 8,400."
