A NEW era unfolds at Walshes Meadow tomorrow when Stourport Swifts play their first ever match in the Dr Martens League Western Division against Shepshed Dynamo (3pm).

The Midland Alliance champions have a full squad to chose from, barring long-term injury casualty Mark Dearlove.

Coach Gary Whild is treating the new season as an adventure, billing it as a great opportunity for the club without expectation weighing on their shoulders.

"It is a big day in Stourport's history and everybody from the chairman downwards is looking forward to it," he said.

"We don't know a lot about Shepshed but they are a decent side who have played at this level for a number of years."

Whild and manager, Rod Brown, are pleased with the squad which combines experienced players who have played in that league before and up-and-coming stars.

"It's a good chance for those that have dropped down to show they can still do it at this level and also for the young lads on the way up," he said.

"The mentality at the club has been a winning one and that has got to continue but this season is a bit of an adventure and if you treat it like that who knows what could happen.

"The main thing is if we can get off to a good start and move on from there. You don't want to be struggling and looking for your first win after five games."
