A BID to join a charity cycle ride in the Middle East will be boosted with a rock and roll night in Malvern.

The event, featuring music by Fireball, will raise money for Anita Sarkar's bid to join the Jordanian Bike Challenge and raise money for the Douglas Bader Foundation.

The ride starts on November 25 and covers 400km.

Mrs Sarkar, who is married to aviation historian Dilip Sarkar, said the foundation was a worthy cause inspired by a great man.

The foundation provides support and assistance to amputees and is named after the late Sir Douglas Bader, a wartime fighter ace despite having earlier lost both legs in a flying crash.

The rock and roll evening is on Saturday, September 1, at Malvern Police and Social Club, behind Malvern Police Station. The bar opens at 6pm, when food is also available, and the band starts at 8pm.

Between 6pm and 7.50pm there is a childrens' disco.

There is also face painting, a bouncy castle and prize for best rock and roll dress. Admission is £3.50.
