MALVERN Town Football club says it is days away from signing a contract with a property developer for its Langland stadium.

Spokesman Richard Anson said on Tuesday that he hoped the contract would be signed in seven to ten days.

"It's not been signed yet due to people being on holiday, but we hope it will be agreed in a couple of weeks and we will issue a comment then" he said.

He refused to name the residential developer or say where the planned new ground might be located until a contract was agreed.

"We've been studying the district council's Open Spaces Study for potential sites and have identified one or two areas we feel would be suitable. We're having a meeting later this week with a local land-owner," he said.

He added that the current ground is old and would need a lot of investment to upgrade. In order to meet regulations for the Dr Marten's League, which is two promotions away, the club needs a stadium with a minimum capacity of 2,500, of which 250 must be seated.

Mr Anson said that the new facility would be community based and cater for everyone from the first team to local ten-year-olds.

"We want it to have minimal effect on the environment and residential properties. The whole thing is being conducted with the spirit of co-operation."
