Let me say how much I support the comments of Christine Shepperd (Postbag, August 10) regarding the downgrading of the floral displays provided by Malvern Hills District Council.

Unfortunately, this is but one more example of the current council's rural-based leadership putting the things that matter to Malvern's urban electorate on the back burner.

The previous council provided new sports halls/facilities in Martley, Ledbury and Hanley Swan.

It also made provision for a new sports hall in Malvern. One of the first acts of this new leadership was to effectively kick that proposal into the long grass never to return.

Another urban concern is the question of dog fouling in Malvern. There is a perfectly adequate set of by-laws to deal with this. In fact, neighbouring

authorities using the same powers have secured many successful convictions. But I have yet to see any reports of successful cases being brought in Malvern.

The only conclusion that can be reached is that the rural controlling group give this a very low priority when it comes to assigning resources despite the justified howls of complaint from Malvern residents in your newspaper.

In conclusion, it has to be said that while the previous MHDC administration was not fault-free in what it did, at least it tried to serve the whole district fairly and without bias to any part of the district.

Just over one year into the current

council's life I fear that the same cannot be said.
