This year's celebration of local orchards, The Big Apple, is scheduled to take place in the Marcle Ridge parishes over the weekend of October 13-14.

Highlights will include English apple sales at Reddingend, Much Marcle, Little Verzons at Pixley and the Dragon Orchard at Putley.

There will be cider tastings at Lyne Down Cider and Westons; apple teas at the Much Marcle Memorial Hall and apple displays and apple desserts at The Royal Oak.

A number of special attractions have been planned, including Ciderlore tales with Fiona Mac in the forge at Lyne Down, at 3pm on Saturday, October 13, and The Monks Walk at Hellens.

This will be consist of a short stroll and talk in search of perry pears. Those wishing to attend should gather at 3pm at the Much Marcle Memorial Hall on the Sunday.

From 5.15pm on October 14, Hellens will be the venue for a talk on the origins of the apple, given by Dr Barrie Juniper of Oxford University. Further details on 01531 670544.
