A MALVERN artist has had her work recognised by the Royal Horticultural Society and has been asked to exhibit at their winter shows.

Beth Barnes was accepted by the society at the end of July after showing her work at a meeting of its picture committee.

In a letter confirming her acceptance, the society praised the style and bold approach of her studies of the shrub Hippeastrum.

Mrs Barnes attributed part of her success to a recent exhibition of her work at the Sir Barry Jackson Rooms, Malvern, a show she shared with fellow Malvern Art Club member Edward Fahey.

"I think it's indirectly linked to the exhibition because you are painting a lot as you build up to it," she said.

"You also see a lot of other people's work which gives you ideas."

The next exhibition at the Sir Barry Jackson Rooms also features Mrs Barnes together with colleagues Ann James and Wendy Townsend.

Ms James has moved from her background of painting local views to flowers in watercolour, acrylic and pastel.

Ms Townsend is exhibiting a selection of work from the Loire and Dordogne in France following a recent trip to the regions.

Titled Three Local Ladies, the exhibition begins on Wednesday, August 29 and runs until Saturday, September 1 and is open between 10am and 4pm.
