A PENSIONER was recovering in hospital today following a daylight attack by youngsters in Malvern.

The 74-year-old was attacked as she walked with another elderly woman near the Safeway supermarket, in Roman Way, on Wednesday afternoon.

The pair went into Goodson Road, where two boys - who may have been as young as 11 - tried to grab their handbags at about 3.30pm.

One woman fought off her attacker, but the young muggers snatched the second woman's bag. It was later recovered with some of the contents missing.

The victim was injured in the struggle and was taken to Ronkswood Hospital.

During the evening she was transferred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, where her condition was described today as "comfortable".

One mugger was said to be aged 10 or 11, with light brown hair and without a shirt.

The other was between 11 and 13, slim and with short, dark hair. He had dark trousers and a shirt.

The police have not released details of the pensioner's injuries.

Three youths are being questioned in connection with the incident.

Inquiries are continuing, and anyone with information should call Det Sgt Keith Weale on 01905 723888 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
