HARRIERS fans have been writing in to the Shuttle, Times & News over the Captain Crazy debate.

Derek Watkins, of Broadwaters Drive, Kidderminster, wrote:

Congratulations to the Harriers, having started their second season in the Football League with an excellent performance against very formidable opposition.

Unfortunately, the off-field entertainment was pathetic.

Captain Crazy, although he had one or two fans who didn't think much of his sense of humour was, nevertheless, liked by the vast majority of supporters, hence the banners and chants from the terraces on Saturday, wanting him back.

I understand there are two cabin boys doing the job that the captain did on his own, which simply proves how capable he was.

The Captain did his homework and delivered it to the supporters in a very professional way.

On Saturday there were no requests played, no information on future matches, no birthday messages, no humour etc. instead we were made to listen to piped Radio Wyvern.

The choice of music was strictly for the teenagers, although 75 per cent of the crowd were over 25, and was played at a volume that needed supporters to shout to hear each other.

And as for the PA system - the club always blamed the Captain for its inferiority, so who are they going to blame for Saturday's screechings? Does the club shop sell Harriers ear-plugs?

Bring back Elgar's "Hope and Glory", bring back the Beatnik Fly (a foot-tapping rock'n'roll instrumental by Johnny and the Hurricanes, played on a regular basis by the Captain). Bring back Captain Crazy.

And Martin Westcott, of Wordsworth Crescent, Kidderminster, said:

What is life coming to in Kidderminster? Firstly we have the disgraceful downgrading of our local hospital and now shockingly the captivating, comical, charismatic, Captain Crazy has resigned following the proposed downgrading of his services at our local football club.

Okay, we all wonder at times whether he is fully compos mentis but the madcap captain is without doubt a connoisseur of matchday presenters.

He has become a local institution and unlike the football team Captain Crazy is always on top form. Hopefully the Harriers will have a rethink and say CARRY ON CAPTAIN.
