Kington v Pershore

PERSHORE visited top of the table Kington in a Worcestershire County League division one game on Saturday and the Herefordshire club all but put paid to Pershore hopes of the title this season.

After home skipper Ken Gwynne won the toss and asked Pershore to bat on what was obviously going to be a difficult wicket openers Stephen Cooper (16) and Lea Hawkes (34) got the visitors away to a solid start putting on 40 for the first wicket. But then Australian Craig Jones made full use of the conditions and made inroads into the Pershore batting when he dismissed five of the first six visitors' batsmen. Pershore never really recovered and stumbled to 91 all out in 39 overs with Lee Wilks and David Corfield being the only other batsmen to reach double figures.

Jones returning the impressive figures of 7-25 to bring his season's tally to 54 league wickets and well within striking distance of the record currently held by Pershore's Lee Caldicott.

In their reply the home batsmen, led by Clive Scott with 44 from 52 balls, adopted a more positive attitude and did not look in any serious trouble when reaching the required target of 92 from only 22.2 overs with the loss of only two wickets.

The victory giving the home side a further 20 points in their quest for a place in division two of the Birmingham League next season.
