A NEW cheerleading group is inviting non-league soccer and rugby clubs in Wyre Forest to put a bit of pzazz into their Saturday fixtures.

The Cheerzone, which was founded three months ago by two Kidderminster women, is proving so popular with youngsters it is looking for clubs to take on cheerleaders. Assistant coach Suzanne Shelmerdine and coach Sara Williams who are looking for venues for their cheerleaders.

Cheerzone members made their debut at Kidderminster Harriers at the weekend.

The group, which was set up by Suzanne Shelmerdine, 20, and Sara Williams, 42, has 40 youngsters, aged five upwards who meet once a week to train at the Harriers ground.

Miss Shelmerdine, a former recruitment consultant and amateur dancer for 10 years, said the group had a large number of intermediate students who were not all able to dance in public at the same time but who deserved the chance to show off their skills.

She said: "It's great for kids. It gives them something to do at the weekend, something totally different and it can be incorporated as part of a Duke of Edinburgh Award."

She added her partner was a former member of the Royal Ballet who had worked in Europe and the United States with clubs including American Football team Miami Dolphins and the All Stars basketball team.
