HARRY Potter fans will have the chance to taste a bit of magic when the Hogwarts Express - the steam locomotive which featured in the launch of J K Rowling's latest book - steams into action at Severn Valley Railway.

The bright-red engine, which shot to fame during its 1,200-mile round trip of Britain to promote Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire last year, will be hauling trains on the Kidderminster to Bridgnorth steam line today and tomorrow.

The locomotive will also be making special appearances with selected trains during the remaining weeks of the school holidays.

SVR marketing manager John Leach said: "There can't be anyone in the country who doesn't know about Harry Potter and the Hogwarts Express and we hope that running it as often as possible during the next few weeks will give some welcome impetus to the long summer holidays when finding something new to do or see can be difficult."

He added visitors hoping to ride the Hogwarts Express after this week should call 01299 403816 in advance to check which days and times it will be running.

The Hogwarts Express is a former BR Southern Region West Country class locomotive.
