THE British Horse Society has produced two new guides, one on horse care and welfare, and the other on BHS Examinations.

Horse Care and Welfare has been produced by BHS in conjunction with The Home of Rest for Horses. It outlines recommendations for basic horse care ensuring their welfare.

Owning or caring for a horse or pony can be a very enjoyable and rewarding pastime but carries with it a lot of responsibility, hard work and financial expenditure. This guide covers topics such as good husbandry, requirements for horses and ponies when stabled and at grass, general health care, feeding and other essential considerations. It is produced in an easy to follow format, with black and white illustrations.

The Guide to BHS Examinations by Jeremy Michaels, BHS head of training and education is a comprehensive guide for anyone wishing to take BHS exams, and includes information on National Qualification, the new BSc (Hons) Equine Sports Coaching degree, British Equestrian Tourism exams and the International Passport.

The booklet will answer many of the questions asked by BHS exam candidates and will help people to prepare effectively for their exams.

Both guides are available from the BHS Bookshop, Stoneleigh Deer Park, Kenilworth, Warwickshire CV8 2XZ, Tel 08701 201918.
