AFTER six months preparation Shelsley Walsh Speed Hill Climb is ready for the biggest motor sport event ever to be staged in its history, celebrating the Midland Automobile Club's 100th birthday party tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday.

Among the attractions will be celebrity drivers and a wide spectrum of cars from an early 1900s Grand Prix Panhard Lavassor, two Maserati 8Cs, the 1932 4-wheel drive Bugatti and seven ERAs to complete the pre-war selection.

There are also the largest selection of Shelsley Spec--ials (one off chassis made specially for hill climbing), a ladies class, cars that have been victorious at Shelsley Walsh with Best Time of Day from 1920 through to the 1990s, and a class for previous Hill Climb Champions or outright Shelsley record holders.

The cream of the modern cars and drivers will show off the extreme speed of hill climbing today from modified road going cars all the way through the categories to the current British Cham-pionship leading cars.

These cars will be vying for not only the day's honours, but the outright hill record.

There is a £1,000 prize for the best time of the weekend, and a further £1000 for the first person to break the 25 second barrier, Graeme Wight Junior having broke the nine year outright hill record at the first meeting of the year at Shelsley Walsh in June to leave it at 25.28 seconds.

Jaguar Cars are supporting the whole event and are bringing some of their finest cars ever built.

These are ranging from a 1905 Daimler, a Mille Miglia 'C' Type, the very first 'D' Type, the one and only XJ13 and the stunning XK180 Concept Car.

Action starts tomorrow with practice runs for the cars, while Saturday and Sunday will be the main action days with different celebrity drivers and cars taking part on both days.

There will be action all the way through the weekend.

Ticket prices are £5 tomorrow and £10 on both Saturday and Sunday.

Three-day advance tickets at £18 each can be purchased by ringing 01886-812211.
