A gripping drama visits Malvern Theatres next week following a highly successful two-year West End run.

Copenhagen, starring Anna Carteret and David Horovitch, is set in 1941 when German nuclear physicist Werner Heisenberg made a mysterious visit to the Nazi occupied city to meet his Danish counterpart Niels Bohr.

Their work as fellow scientists had once opened the way into the atom but now, on opposite sides of a world war, the race is on to advance their discoveries.

And scientists and historians have allegedly argued ever since about what happened at that fateful meeting.

The play is by Michael Frayn, whose work includes the award-winning Noises Off and Benefactors as well as the 1999 Booker shortlisted novel Headlong.

Anna Carteret, who plays Margrethe Bohr, recently toured in the RSC tour of Richard III and her television credits include Dr Marshall in Peak Practice and Kate Longton in Juliet Bravo.

David Horovitch, who stars as Niels Bohr, played Inspector Slack in the Miss Marple series and more recently alongside Glenn Close as Dr Pavlov in 102 Dalmatians, while Alexander Hanson, a member of the West End cast of Memory of Water and a Royal National Theatre regular, stars as Heisenberg.

Performances of Copenhagen take place from next Wednesday until Saturday, September 1, at 8pm, except Sunday and Monday.

There are also matinees at 2.30pm on Saturday and 3pm on Sunday.

Tickets cost £14-£20 from the box office on 01684 892277.
