THE Evesham Hospital Cup Committee is launching a new competition in memory of a local football stalwart.

Marshalls Transport has given the committee a cup which will be played for in memory of Barry Brotherton. Barry was heavily involved in local football both as a player, a referee and a committee man.

The cup will be played for on August 26 on Broadway United's ground between Offenham Rovers, the winners of the Sunday Minor Cup, and Bretforton Sports VIC, who won the Sunday Junior Cup. Barry came from Offenham and match organisers feel it is appropriate that his local team will be playing in the competition's inaugural game.

The committee of the Evesham Hospital and Charity Cup Competition have also been handing out cash from money made during the 2000-2001 season. St Richard's Hospice received £100 and another £100 was given to the Friends of Evesham Community Hospital.
