Pershore Town 2, Shortwood 2

PERSHORE Town's last pre-season friendly against the Gloucestershire-based Shortwood ended in a draw, which was a fair result.

Shortwood were first to attack. Paul Groves shot from the right which flashed across the face of goal. In reply Pershore new-boy Phil Marsden saw his edge of the box drive ricochet off the crossbar.

Shortwood took the lead in the 19th minute, a cross by Gareth Davis was met and volleyed home by Phil Baker.

Pershore's Paul Concannon hit a far post cross for Marsden to head over. Then followed a great run by Riki Halion when he cut through three defenders to drive inches wide.

The pressure paid off for Pershore when Paul Concannon rode several tackles to lay on a pass for Jason Vann to volley the equaliser into the roof of the net just before the break.

Within the first minute of the second half Paul Concannon was again involved, his perfect pass enabled substitute Gary Grewe to run on and hit a fierce drive into the far side of the goal.

Shortwood pressed forward for the equaliser and were rewarded in the 66th minute. Baker made a penetrating run for goal but was upended by keeper Neil Turner on the edge of the box, the referee awarded a penalty for Baker to convert the spot kick.
