SEVERN Waste Service's appeal against the decision by the county council's planning committee to reject the application for the incinerator on the British Sugar site in Kidderminster, must concern us all.
It speaks volumes about Severn Waste as a company. Wyre Forest's opposition to their proposals was unanimous. Clearly they have no regard for local feelings.
If the appeal were to be upheld, as they confidently predict, it would make a mockery of the planning process, which rejected their plans by a conclusive 11 votes to two.
If they are allowed to proceed, the closure of the British Sugar factory would give them the opportunity to expand and take in waste from the industrial West Midlands. Remember, they are a private company who have to return a profit and Kiddermin-ster is ideally positioned.
Finally, we must not ignore the big question mark hanging over the process of incineration with particular emphasis on the problems of toxic emissions and potential uses for the by-products.
Please support SKI and those who are fighting to stop this monstrous destruction of our town.
