REGARDING Miss Moyse's response to the article concerning Peter Luff and fishing.
Regrettably her letter seems fairly typical of the misleading rhetoric so often employed by anti-field sport groups.
While various extremist organisations target individual field sports the ultimate goal is always the same - a total ban on hunting, shooting and fishing. The method of attack is that well-known ploy, divide and conquer.
Coarse fishermen have in recent years tended to foolishly distance themselves from controversies that have attended hunting and shooting. By standing alone anglers have made themselves vulnerable.
Anti-field sport organisations are ruthless and organised, quite prepared to use emotional blackmail, misinformation and devious tactics to obtain their ends. I am sure many of their ordinary, well meaning supporters do not fully realise this.
For example, in giving evidence against hunting with dogs the LACS supported shooting as the preferred method of fox control. At the same time they were plotting an anti-shooting campaign to start after any ban on fox hunting became law.
These are the political methods of the zealot who use their freedom within a democracy to destroy the freedoms and liberties enjoyed by others of whom they do not approve.
Peter Luff is right, it is a matter for the individual.
