JUDO: A devastating series of victories at the Midlands Combined grading saw Kidderminster's Samurai Judo Club gain a host of new grades.

The Friday night parents and senior beginners were at the fore as Samurai won 80 per cent of contests.

Mark Donnelly gained the highest grade, sweeping past opponents to win his third-level black belt.

Martin Brown was equally impressive, winning three quick contests with a variety of throws to gain his senior top brown belt.

There were also two new belts in the ladies with Jayne Hooper moving to senior top brown and Gemma White, 15, converting from junior blue to senior brown easily.

Stourport Judo Club's Andrew Tolley also gained his brown belt after a determined effort.

The Samurai's less experienced lightweight seniors produced spectacular displays.

Paul Clarke and Matt Davis leapt straight to green belts at their first contest grading, while 15-year-old Annabel Webb won convincingly to go to top orange.

Her younger and more experienced cousin, Amy Darch, put together another determined performance in the juniors to move to junior blue belt.
