WANNABE firefighters have the chance to find out about a hot career and do their bit for charity at the same time at an event this weekend.

The annual Stourport Fire Station open day takes place on Saturday and young and old can discover what it takes to make the grade or simply enjoy a look around the brigade's engines and other equipment. Firefighter Ray Price prepares for Stourport Fire Station's open day with Jack Webb.

Firefighter Ray Price, who will be among several officers available to talk to, said: "This is always a fun occasion and we are hoping to see a lot of new faces this year.

"There's plenty to see and do with a barbecue, disco, fire safety, and fire engine displays."

He added: "The special equipment we use such as the hydraulic platform and fire service boat will be brought over from Worcester.

"We are also doing our bit for charity and funds from the day will go to the NSPCC and national Fire Brigade Benevolent Fund, for which there will be a fund-raising stand with items such as helmets and badges on sale."
