SWIMMING sensation Todd Cooper broke the Scottish record as he took two bronzes at the British Short Course Swimming Championships.

Cooper, who headed north of the border to train and study at the University of Stirling, was delighted with his third place in the 100m butterfly at Norwich.

And the 18-year-old collected another bronze with his Stirling team in the 200m freestyle relay.

It is the latest in a long line of achievements for the former Kidderminster resident who has just returned from a 10-week training camp in Arizona at Phoenix State University.

Ex-Haybridge High School pupil Cooper shaved the Scottish record with 54.25 seconds in his individual semi-final and then went better in the final with 54.19.

The former OCS Young Sportsperson of the Year is looking ahead to qualifying for the Commonwealth Games in Manchester next July.

His father Gary said: "This time last year he was sixth in the British Short Course Swimming Championships so we are really pleased with the improvement he has made.

"He went out to do warm weather training with the Arizona Sun Devils. It was great and he came back to knock half-a-second off his personal best."
