WORCESTERSHIRE lost to Nottinghamshire despite making a bright start with a 3-2 lead in the foursomes.

But Notts produced a convincing singles performance at Coxmoor for a 10-5 victory. Andrew Smith, from Gay Hill, made a winning debut for the first team, winning his foursomes match with Alan Sykes.

A strong performance from the top pairing of Matt Feavyour and Craig Moss got the team off to a positive start with the final pairing of Michael Wood and Chris Heeley also winning to put Worcestershire in confident mood for the afternoon singles.

It wasn't to be, however, as Notts started very strongly in the singles and never released their grip of the match.

At one stage it looked like it might be a clean sweep but Michael Wood battled hard for his victory.

The highlight for Worcestershire was Chris Heeley who managed to win his match having been two down with three to play - he birdied the last three holes to do so.

This now leaves the county unable to win the League but wins in the remaining two matches would improve their league position and would also help to boost the confidence of the team for next season.
