PARENTS in Worcestershire are being urged to be extra vigilant when taking children to remote areas this summer.

The warning comes as the National Association of Air Ambulance Services (NAAAS) says that call-outs soar during the summer months.

Summer call-outs increase 25 per cent on the average 1,500 a month, due to an increase in accidents in remote areas, such as the beach or countryside.

"The reason for the rise in the number of call-outs is that in the summer holidays when children are out and about in the countryside or at the beach, there is an increased chance of them having an accident," said Nigel Webb, chief executive of the AA-supported NAAAS.

"It could be falling off a mountain bike, an accident when camping or even getting stranded by the tide during a day at the beach."

There are 18 air ambulances across the UK, which are funded by the local community and AA. Anyone interested in making a donation should call 0800 389 9899.
