TWO meetings have been scheduled in September as a "united front" to protect St John's.

Dennis Ogle, the chairman of the St John's Traders and Residents' Association, said he was reluctant to comment about the pros and cons of the Tesco supermarket application as the matter had not been explored with members.

But he said representatives of the association would meet with figures from the organisation Save Our St John's at The Bell public house on Thursday, September 6.

"We're going to thrash out an agenda so we can present a united front when we meet with Sainsbury's," he said.

Mr Ogle described the Sainsbury's plans as "excessive". He was convinced the store was not worried by Tesco's rival bid for Swanpool Walk.

"The association has its next meeting on Wednesday, September 19, and there will be some discussion about the Tesco application then," added Mr Ogle.

The association's meeting, which is only for St John's residents and traders, will take place at the hall next to Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Bransford Road.
