A MAXIMUM-POINT win has left Stourport closing in on promotion from Worcestershire League Division Three.

The town recorded a 112-run win over third-from-bottom Rushwick at Walshes Meadow on Saturday.

The home side began brightly with important contributions from all the top order batsmen, including Neil Bailey (36).

Aggressive batting from John Shackleton (58no) and Phil Williams (49) saw the innings to 247-5.

The visitors struggled to 136 all out with man-of-the-match Ian Delo claiming 6-24.

The seconds returned to winning ways with an 114-run victory at third-placed Rushwick.

Neil Wildgust anchored the Stourport innings with a patient 80 before an unbroken sixth wicket partnership.

Kevin Haycock (55no) and Lloyd Roberts joined together to raise the total up to 210-5.

Rushwick were bowled out in reply for just 96 as John Downes captured 4-34.

Haycock capped a fine all-round display with figures of 3-8 from eight overs.
