CHADDESLEY Corbett came within five runs of gaining a memorable Worcestershire League Division One victory over Droitwich Spa on Saturday.

A win would have taken Chaddesley out of the relegation zone but they narrowly missed out in a thrilling finish.

In the end, they had to settle for a losing draw and are still in danger of going down.

Chaddesley's Mark Edwards and Ian Chambers took a wicket each as Droitwich struggled to 37-2 in the 16th over.

From then on, Ian Duggan and Wesley Euley took the game away from Chaddesley, adding 237 in 31 overs.

Visiting captain Duggan declared the innings at 274-2 when Euley reached his century, an over after Duggan's own.

Set 275 for victory from 53 overs, Chaddesley lost George Baylis in the second over then Edwards joined Matt Boden.

The pair took the score to 136 before Edwards was run out for 88.

Chaddesley needed 140 from 18 overs and Kevin Truswell (35) added 51 with Boden.

But the latter departed lbw for 50 with the target down to 88 from 10 overs and then Truswell was run out in a mix-up with Chambers (39).

Andy Elbro came in and scored 29 when 17 runs were needed from two overs but Chambers became the third run-out victim.

Finally, Simon Robinson could not hit the last ball for six to snatch the much-needed win.

Chaddesley are left second from bottom and are nine points away from Worcester Nomads and Bewdley above them.

Droitwich 274-2, Chaddesley 270-6.

Chaddesley seconds were beaten by Droitwich Spa on their travels by seven wickets.

The villagers totalled 144 all out but third-placed Spa made 145-3 in response.

Chaddesley are now sixth in the division, having won six of their 18 matches.
