FIRE crews evacuated the smokelogged Kingfisher Centre after a blaze broke out at the former JJB Sports store.
Sparks from construction work being carried out at the empty unit are thought to have travelled through a hole in the floor to the storeroom below, igniting flammable material.
Redditch's White Watch was first on the scene, at about 7.10pm last Tuesday, but quickly called for back-up from Redditch, Bromsgrove and Worcester due to the large amount of smoke.
There were more than 25 firefighters in total and White Watch returned to the station at about 11pm.
