TEENAGER Emile Yardley is basking in glory after proving he's one of the best athletes in the world.

The Bromsgrove sprinter won a bronze and silver at the CP ISRA World Games for competitors with cerebral palsy.

Seventeen-year-old Emile produced a lifetime best of just outside one minute when he was third in the 400m behind the Paralympics champion from Russia.

But he went one better in the 4x400m relay when the England and Wales team won silver behind France.

The Stourbridge Road resident said: "This was my first time at the World Games and I was shocked to do so well.

"I ran the second leg in the relay but the rules were different from what I was used to at junior level because the first bend had to be run in lanes.

"I didn't have much time to practise but I think I did okay.

"I was a long way from the Russian in the individual 400m but I almost got the silver."

More than 40 countries were represented at the ten-day event in Nottingham in July. Athletes are split into categories depending on how severe their disability is.

Emile also made the final of the 200m, finishing eighth.

The former Chadsgrove School pupil took up athletics in 1997 and trains at Nunnery Wood, in Worcester.

His next event is the English Open this weekend at Birmingham's Alexander Stadium. He will compete in the 100m, 200m and 400m.
