DEAR EDITOR - Now is surely the time to end the Nellie Copson saga. What appears as a real or imaginary raw deal for Nellie has, through the years, deteriorated into a yearly "tweaking of authority's nose" and I am sure worry on the part of local authority that this cantankerous old woman is up to her usual tricks.

In the past Nellie has been saved from prison by the kindness of friends but with, on her own admission, at least £32,000, a lot of the kindness must have evaporated. Many elderly must have paid their dues with much less than this amount.

So please Nellie, stop being "a difficult and obstructive old lady" -- the judge's words, who does herself and the elderly no favours by her actions. Take all the literature down from your shop windows and, one way or another, put the shop to good use and help to brighten up one end of the Droitwich High Street.

Stan Hampton,

Cobham Court, Droitwich Spa.
