DEAR EDITOR - Faced with the prospect of having to vote for a new leader of the Conservative Party, loyal members in Bromsgrove are faced with a dilemma.

At the time when William Hague was elected as leader, our Member of Parliament, Julie Kirkbride, gave her prominent support to him and backed the winner.

More recently she supported Michael Portillo until he was eliminated from the leadership race.

She is now backing Kenneth Clarke - well known for his pro-Euro stance.

This presents local members with a difficult decision.

Should they follow their MP's earlier example and vote for someone (Iain Duncan Smith) who wishes to see Britain "In Europe but not run by Europe" or should they vote for Mr Clarke who believes that Britain would be better off in the single currency?

After all, it is only a few weeks since local Conservatives were standing on street corners asking people to sign a petition to "Keep the Pound", actively supported by Julie as she campaigned in the General Election.

Conservatives in Bromsgrove are now confused to say the least, and do not know for whom they should vote.

Stephen Peters,

Alcester Road,

Wythall.
