A MAN armed with a butchers knife subjected two women shop assistants to a terrifying robbery in Church Hill on Sunday night.
The incident happened at McColls newsagents, in Church Hill centre, at about 10.20pm.
The women, aged 40 and 38, were locking up the shop when they were approached by a man.
The women asked him if he needed any help when he pulled out a knife, described as a 12-inch bladed butcher-type knife, demanding they hand over their handbags.
Police said the man then threatened one of the women with the knife again before taking her necklace and walking calmly off towards Knowle Close.
The offender was described as a black man, about 5ft 11ins tall and aged about 22. He was wearing dark clothing.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to call Redditch CID on 584888 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
