THERE was an unusual fencing match at the weekend when a disabled team took on Droitwich Spa Fencing Club.
Members of the British Disabled Fencing Association (BDFA) beat the Spa team 5-1 at University College Worcester.
The match was made possible by the Droitwich team sitting in wheelchairs for the contests.
Mark Fuller, of Worcester, is one of the top disabled fencers in the country and is a member of the Spa club.
He competed for the BDFA against his club colleagues.
He said: "We were lucky to win 5-1 because all six matches were close.
"Able-bodied fencers would normally be at a disadvantage competing in a wheelchair. It's quite alien for them to start with.
"But the guys from Droitwich are used to fencing against me and they did even better than we expected."
