THE parish church in Bromsgrove will be one of many historical buildings to be photographed for English Heritage's Images of England project this summer.

St John's Church, in Kidderminster road, as well as others of historical or architectural interest in Worcestershire, will make up one of the world's largest free on-line picture libraries to be up-and-running by the end of 2002.

The project, which is supported by a £3.9m grant from the Heritage lottery fund, is run by the National Monuments Record and will see dozens of volunteers from local camera clubs and the Royal Photographic Society taking photos of the exterior of each building over the coming months.

These pictures will appear on the Images of England website with an official description of each structure.

Other listed buildings in the area to be photographed include the statue of Sir Rowland Hill, in Kidderminster, the public library, in Evesham, and the Pillar Box, in Malvern.

Images of England project manager Victoria Fenner was delighted with the contribution local volunteers had made to the project.

She said: "Since the photographic survey started we've had a terrific response from our photographers.

"Together they're creating a unique millennial photographic record of England's heritage for the future."

Some of the early photos taken for the Images of England website are now on display at www.imagesofengland.org.uk.
