A MASSIVE 1,201 pounds of fish were caught by the 38 members competing in the Starlets' Veterans contest on Tuesday at Woodlands Views Top Pools.

Small carp were the main target as Bill Hateley (Northfield) took first place with a 57-8-0 catch, by pole fishing corn and worm at peg 21, second was Stan James (Bewdley) 50-7-0, third Mike Millinchip (Kidderminster) 48-7-0.

Things were not quite so good for their Thursday event which took place at Wassell Groves Brook Pool.

Phil Hill (Redditch) claimed the only double figure catch of 19-2-0 by pole fishing meat to the island from peg 15, second Brian Hill (Stourport) 8-5-0, third Jim Gould (Bewdley) 6-10-0, fourth Mick Taylor (Northfield) 6-1-0.

The Civil Service, Midland Region, national team qualifier was held at Barford on the River Avon above the weir where Keith Whitehead (Tipton) took a 11-14-0 chub catch by wheeler fishing maggots at peg 50, second Paul Wilmott (Birmingham) 5-9-0, third Dave McCormack (West Midlands) 4-8-0.

Friday's Costcutter Open at Moor-lands Farm was held on the Meadow Pool where Harry Cocey (West Mid-lands) took a top catch of 80-2-0 by pole fishing corn and meat at peg 11, second Bill Drew (Bewdley) 74-14-0, third Keith Hall (Charlmount) 72-3-0.

On Saturday the Ovation Leisure Open was fished on Lower Broadheath's Sycamore Pool with Anthony Orgee (Broadheath) taking a top catch of 66-4-0 by pole fishing maggots at peg 19, second Pete Willis (Bewdley) 58-2-0, third Steve Juliff (Worcester) 57-3-0, fourth yours truly, Tony Brunn (Ovation Leisure), 36-12-0.

Sunday saw the Annual BAA Club Championships Open held on the River Avon at Cleeve Prior with Mark Bulliv-ant (Mustad Barford) pole fishing maggots two pegs up from the bottom boundary, where he foul hooked a seven pound barbel which, together with a few tiddlers, gave him a top weight of 8-4-0.

Bromsgrove's Tony Delves (100 AC) was second in the open tournament but won the club championship.

He drew the opposite end of the match length by Stubbs Pool where he stick float fished casters for a roach and perch catch of 7-0-0, third Jeff Spiers (Evesham WMC) 6-8-0.

Gilt Edge AC fished its event at Silligrove Fishery with Richard Broadhurst taking top honours with a pole, corn and meat catch of 27-9-0 from peg four, second Frank Guest 10-14-0, third Peter White 10-10-0.

Kidderminster trout specialist Kevin Duffield took the fish of the week at Silligrove, a six-pound rainbow which fell to a buzzer.

At Astwood Fishery there were two open events. On the Smokey Joe Pool, John Priest (Noah's Ark) was the winner with a pole and meat mixed catch of 34-2-0 from peg 39, second Pete Norris (Strettons) 31-2-0, third Phil Launchbury (Noah's Ark) 29-9-0.

Mark Roberson (Droitwich ACMG) took top spot on the Bluebell Pool with 63-5-0 taken with pole and meat from peg 18, second John Halfpenny (Astwood) 49-15-0, third Brian Williams (Astwood) 44-1-0.

The Furnace Mill Open was held on the Mucky Meadow Pool with Martin Amphlett (WTS) showing the way by pole fishing worms at peg 45 for 54-4-0, second Ray Lamb (Vine AC) 45-6-0, third Terry Edwards (Swan AC) 38-11-0. At Moorlands Farm, Chris Hill (Fosters MG) took first place with a pole and corn catch of 84-12-0 from Meadow Pool peg 44, team-mate Mick Henshall followed with 79-10-0, third Mark Jones (Moorlands) 76-11-0.

Steve Watson (Strettons) won the Evening Open with 105-3-0 from peg 58 on the Meadow Pool, second Neville Groves (Walsall) 97-15-0, third Andy Newton (DC Lifestyle) 88-10-0.
