BARNT Green Spartak travelled to Coventry on Saturday and were beaten 3-0 by a very strong Massey Ferguson side.

Spartak started off well and could have gone in front on three minutes when a forward rounded the keeper and shot from a tight angle. The effort hit the post and fell into the keeper's hands.

Massey took the lead when trialist Allan Young was beaten and a shot was fired past former Earlswood keeper Mark Kelly.

Spartak had good chances to level through Simon Brown, Dilaor Miah and Terry Wales.

Massey caused problems on the break and Kelly made a couple of good saves.

Spartak played much better in the opening half hour of the second period but failed to get back on level terms. Massey went 2-0 up on 75 minutes against the run of play.

Brown missed a simple chance shortly after and the home side almost immediately made it 3-0 after a slip by skipper Simon Pinfield.

Spartak open their Midland Football Combination Division Two season with a home game against Chelmsley Town on Saturday, kick-off 2.45pm.
