MID-Worcestershire MP Peter Luff has called on Droitwich people to keep an eye on a homelessness project in case anti-social behaviour proves a problem in the future.

For eight years the scheme was known as the Droitwich Single Homeless Project, and has two centres in Ombersley Road which cater for people aged between 16 and 25.

They have been run since April by Redditch-based Step Out Drop In, which has five properties in the county.

Since the change in management, Mr Luff has received complaints from neighbours about disorder by the residents.

Last month, he wrote to the police, Wychavon District Council and Droitwich Spa & Rural Housing Association.

"It seems there was a funding problem at the time of the change in the management, which led to the ending of 24-hour supervision," said Mr Luff.

"I've been reassured that 24-hour supervision is back in place and that this should resolve matters."

He said he was a strong supporter of the project, but added it had to be run well for the sake of "neighbours, the whole town and the residents themselves".

"I'd be grateful for any reports from Droitwich residents about issues surrounding the project," the MP added.

David Cartwright, the project director at Step Out Drop In, confirmed Mr Luff's remarks.

He said a five-year action plan to enhance the work of Step Out Drop in at Droitwich would be unveiled in September.
