A CONDUCTOR is appealing for anyone in Worcestershire with an orchestra going spare to give him a call.
John Challis, a concert organiser and amateur conductor, hopes to arrange a charity concert for this autumn's BBC's Children in Need appeal.
Mr Challis has contacted orchestras in Malvern, Hereford and Wales as well as four BBC outfits.
But they have all said they are too busy to take part.
"I'd like to do something of note before it's too late," said 74-year-old Mr Challis, of Sutton St Nicholas in Herefordshire, whose dream is to conduct Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No 2.
"I'd welcome an orchestra from anywhere.
"It's a Catch-22 situation, as if I can get an orchestra then I will be able to get sponsors, and if I can get sponsors then I'm sure it would be easier to get an orchestra involved."
He hopes a school orchestra might be willing to step into the breach. Mr Challis can be contacted on 01432 880577.
