A TEENAGE boy grabbed a sleeping baby from its cot as fire broke out in the family kitchen.
The eight-month-old baby was tended by an ambulance crew after it was rescued from its Evesham home last night.
The baby's 16-year-old brother ran upstairs and grabbed the sleeping tot before escaping with their 13-year-old brother and calling the fire brigade.
The blaze started after the two brothers, who were alone in the house with the baby, began cooking food under the grill, but forgot that it was there.
Ten firefighters from Evesham fire station were called to Coronation Street at midnight. They used one hose reel jet to douse the flames. Two breathing apparatus were also used.
An ambulance crew was called to the scene, and the baby was later taken to casualty by its parents as a precaution.
"The boys did exactly the right thing," said Sub Officer John Lawrie, of Evesham fire station.
"But this should serve as a reminder to everybody to make sure that you have smoke alarms fitted and that the batteries are serviced regularly."
