THE reign of Queen Victoria will be celebrated 100 years after her death with a fun-packed fete in Salwarpe.

Visitors to the event this Saturday are encouraged to don outfits reminiscent of the austere period and prizes for the best children's fancy dress are up for grabs.

Falconry was an extremely popular pastime in Victorian days and one of the major attractions will be display team Hawkeye, which is bringing a selection of birds of prey.

The West Mercia Constabulary Band is providing music and community-spirited villagers are planning boat rides, a magic and puppet show, bell ringing demonstration, games and stalls.

And there will be displays in St Michael's Church and the village hall.

The fun kicks off at 2pm, in Copcut Lane, and cash raised will go to churches at Salwarpe and Martin Hussingtree.

Last year, more than 2,000 people attended the event and organisers are hoping to top the record-breaking total raised.
