A MAN who lost everything when his flat was robbed claims he warned a housing association days before the break-in that his front door was not secure.

Robert Stinton said the door of his flat on Elgar Avenue in Malvern had not been secure since it was damaged in an attempted break-in in January last year.

But Property Care Partnership, the housing association which owns the flat, said whenever it had inspected the door, it had found it to be safe.

After the attempted break-in, the door was fitted with a new standard five-lever deadlock.

"This wasn't enough," said Mr Stinton, who lives at the flat with his disabled wife Samantha.

He said even after it was repaired, the door was not secure, and he wanted it to be replaced with a completely new one.

"Every time we've been contacted by Mr Stinton we've gone out to him, and every time we inspected the flat, we found it to be secure," said Julia Daker, a spokeswoman for the Property Care Partnership.

Three weeks ago, the flat was broken into and Mr Stinton had possessions valued at £3,500 stolen.

This was the second break-in at the flat since the door was damaged.

"Both times the door was repaired, but on this most recent occasion, the door was damaged so badly that it will have to be entirely replaced," said Mrs Daker, speaking on behalf of the partnership, a branch of the Partnership Housing Group.

Although the door will now be replaced, Mr Stinton is still angry because he said the association repeatedly changed the date it would be installed.

"They said it would be replaced last Friday, and then they moved it to Monday, but I rang them up on Monday and they said it would be next Friday," he said. "I just want something done about it."

Mr Stinton is also concerned his possessions will not be covered by the insurance company because his door was not secure, and hopes to receive some kind of compensation from Property Care Partnership.

"We're certain that the property was secure and this will be an issue he needs to address with his insurance company," said Mrs Daker.

"The door will be replaced within the next week."
