I HAVE received a copy of the consultation document prepared by the Worcester City Centre Forum, which puts forward recommendations for the 're-vamping' of the High Street.

Whilst applauding some of the suggestions, I am seriously concerned about the proposals for the removal of the mature trees in the High Street.

Many of the modern architectural features in the High Street are both utilitarian and unattractive. The big trees provide a softening of the landscape and contribute to an attractive view of the shopping area.

People sit out under these trees - as global warming continues, the High Street, with its shady avenue, is an attractive and cool place.

Many of our older citizens enjoy just 'watching the world go by' from under these trees. Some tree maintenance is obviously required, but suggesting that adult trees are removed at this stage is environmentally perverse.

I am concerned to know the present status of these proposals, and how ordinary citizens of this beautiful Cathedral city will be consulted.

Does anyone else share my concerns?
