The new player-boss, hit by the loss of half a dozen regulars in the close season, blooded new signing Neil Cartwright and eight trialists.

Former Halesowen Town midfielder Cartwright was forced to play just days after returning from his hols and out of position at centre back enduring a torrid time.

Former Paget and Solihull defender Danny Anstice started at left back, Blues trainee and Telford reserve Simon Williams was at right midfield.

Former Telford pro David Bridgewater played in midfield Birmingham University student Andrew Atherley was on the left wing and Paul Eden, RC Warwick's top scorer last year, led the line alongside Paul Danks.

Local lad Gavin Barratt, who has played for English Students, came on in midfield after returning from Leeds University, former Paget utility player Jamie McWilliams was another sub and Cross brought on another unnamed trialist before the end.

Gary Hackett confirmed Cartwright was the only definite signing with the others staying at the club for pre-season with a view to signing.
