WASTE wars are set to rage throughout Worcester City Council this autumn, it appears.

The Labour group is at odds with the Conservatives and Independents over the provision of skips in three Worcester roads.

Labour councillors have asked for the measure to be "called in" - the first use of this power since the formal adoption of the cabinet system in the spring.

Stand by for wrangles at the community services policy and review committee and full council in September. More sparks are likely to fly at the executive board next month.

I'm pleased the opposition is keeping a check on the Conservative executive board.

Yet it's a shame that something so mundane as the installation of skips has become the subject over which Labour has picked its first real fight of the year.
